Today was our court date. It was a very early morning for us as we had to be ready to leave by 7:00 A.M. So we set our alarms for 6:00 and hustled to get everyone ready and out the door on time. We were supposed to be at court before 9:00 because that is when the magistrate arrives, and we are to be there ready to go when they arrive. We arrived at the courthouse by 8:00 A.M., so we had to wait out in the car for an hour till 9:00. But at 9:00 the magistrate still hadn’t arrived. So we waited out in the car some more. She arrived around 10:30 and we were able to go into the courthouse and sit in one of the court rooms. Fortunately it was air conditioned because I think I had already sweated out all I could.
We thought we were waiting on the magistrate to come into that courtroom and started to get a bit antsy when it hit noon and she still had not come in. But shortly after noon we were called out into the magistrate’s office, which was where the proceedings were to take place. Two representatives from Morgan Hill as well as a representative from the Ministry where there on our behalf. We never even spoke at the hearing. The ministry official handled everything. And in about 10 minutes we were told congratulations and the process was over.
We were allowed to pick Ruth’s birthday which we had previously been told we would not be able to do. So Ruth’s birthday is July 23rd, 2014, exactly 6 months before Allen’s. After all, a guy can only remember so many dates am I right?
We didn’t get the court order today, but should receive it by Friday. From there, we will request Ruth’s birth certificate which from my understanding can take up to a week. Then we will apply for her passport which should take 2 days but could take longer. Then after that we start the visa process and we don’t really have a clue how long that will take. At this point we are praying for the best case scenario and preparing for the worst.
The kids caught a quick car nap on the way home and we got back to our house around 2:00. We were too emotionally and physically spent to do much once we got home so we just turned on cartoons and counted down the hours to bedtime.
So we are kind of in a holding pattern now until we can request the birth certificate, which I don’t think we even really have to leave the house to do. So it will be a lot of sitting and waiting for us for the next few days to a week.
- That we get the court order tomorrow instead of Friday if possible
- That the process will continue to move smoothly and quickly
- For us as a family as we continue to bond/parent 2 toddlers who are feeding off of each other and constantly testing boundaries
