Day 1 Update

Whatever we were expecting about this city, it’s been exceeded! Our first full day here, after a good and long rest, was busy site-seeing, walking almost 8 miles to do it all, too!

Our breakfast: a crab Rangoon sandwich and a sausage and pepper sandwich. Breakfasts here are very different from American breakfasts!
We caved and got some Starbucks- but at least we tried the sandwiches, right?!
A beautiful lantern street on our walk to the Peak Tram. Stunning!
I get tickled every time I see a U.S. Beef ad- and there are quite a few around the city!
There are several U.S. chains present here: McDonald’s, Starbucks, Shake Shack, KFC, 7-Eleven, and Circle K are what we’ve seen so far.

One of the best views here is at the top of the peak, and it definitely deserves that title! We enjoyed a tram ride to the top, and surprisingly enough there was a huge mall full of shops and restaurants, so we just made a whole day of it. We got the kids some traditional Chinese New Year clothes and lots of other memorabilia- so much fun with lots to see!

On the tram! Getting there in the morning was much less busy than in the afternoon. The city doesn’t seem to wake up very early, at least on the weekend.
A view of the city as we’re climbing the mountain to the top.
In the restaurant where we ate lunch at the top of the Peak.
The city is breathtaking! I couldn’t even fit it all in a picture!
I tried Chinese tea for the first time, it was pretty good! Not unlike tea in the U.S., just hot and not sweet. Shane asked for water, but instead of a bottle they brought a kettle full of HOT water for him! We had a good laugh!
Beef and noodles- Beth’s favorite from lunch.
Sweet and Spicy pork- Shane’s favorite from lunch.
Oh- I forgot about this place earlier- I thought it was hilarious to see a Bubba Gump Shrimp in Asia!

After a full day of seeing the Peak area, we met the C family for dinner. And, of course, I forgot to get a picture. But it was because we had such a great time together it was t even on my mind!

On our walk back to the hotel, we did see the entrance for the social organization that our adoptions are through. We also saw the High Court on our way to the Peak, which is the court that all the legal proceedings have been. It’s special to see the places where so much of this adoption work has occurred.

We’re looking forward to tomorrow- and even more so to Monday. We are appreciating every second of this trip, realizing even more fully the miracles God has worked out to bring us to this point. We are so very thankful!

  1. Such a beautiful country and I’m sure it’s all kind of surreal right now seeing as it happened so fast, I mean, your trip over! 😁
I’m glad you’ve had time to get some much needed rest and explore some of the city before meeting Celine Monday!

  2. I am so glad it has been a pleasant surprise to see some places you can eat, rejuvenate your spirits and especially get rested up! Continuing to pray for this smooth transition, in the name of Jesus!
